The first player registered for the 2025 World Series of Poker's $100,000 and $250,000 Super High Roller events isn’t a household name like Bonomo, Chidwick, or Ivey, and it’s not often the poker world pauses at the very first name on a registration list.
But as eyes begin to turn to the two biggest buy-in events at this year's WSOP, one name has drawn a double-take: Matt Belcher.

Click hereBelcher isn’t among the usual suspects in poker’s high-stakes elite. But make no mistake: the British pro has been quietly assembling an impressive résumé over the past 18 months, flying under the radar while cashing across multiple tours and continents.
In February 2025, Belcher made his debut on the Triton Super High Roller Series in Jeju, South Korea. His first foray into poker’s most exclusive fields saw him fire six events, including the $100,000 NLH Main Event, but he walked away with just a single result, a min-cash in a $25,000 buy-in.
Three months later, he returned to Triton in Montenegro and made a much louder statement. Belcher finished seventh in the $50,000 8-Handed for $283,000, then followed it up with a 13th-place finish in the $100,000 Main Event for $293,000. In just a few days, he banked over half a million dollars and proved he could compete at the top.
That hot streak followed a final-table run in April at the APT Super High Roller in Taipei, where he finished fourth for the equivalent of $103,000.
Date | Event | Place | Payout (USD) |
---|---|---|---|
May-25 | $100,000 Triton Montenegro Main Event | 13th | $ 293,000 |
May-25 | $50,000 Triton Montenegro 8-Handed NLHE | 7th | $ 283,000 |
Dec-24 | $25,000 WSOP Paradise Main Event | 24th | $ 180,300 |
Dec-24 | WSOP Paradise Summer Saver Invitational | 2nd | $ 116,200 |
Apr-25 | NT$ 330,000APT Taipei Super High Roller | 4th | $ 103,229 |
What makes Belcher’s rise so intriguing, and what makes his early registration for both the WSOP’s $100K and $250K Super High Rollers especially eyebrow-raising, is how seamlessly he blends the elite with the obscure.
In between chasing seven-figure prize pools, Belcher has been a familiar face at low buy-in events across Asia. These range from RM786 ($165) Hyper Turbos in Malaysia to NT$35,000 (~$1,000) turbos in Taipei. According to The Hendon Mob, in April 2025 alone, he cashed 12 times in just nine days — including three separate events on April 13 alone.
And he’s not just turning up. He’s making final tables, and he’s winning.
Some may also recognize Belcher from his run at WSOP Paradise in December 2024, where he reached Day 4 of the $25,000 WSOP Paradise Super Main Event and finished 24th for $180,300. He followed that up just days later with a runner-up finish in the Summer Saver Invitational, worth another $116,200.
He’s already off the mark at the 2025 WSOP in Las Vegas, finishing 106th in Event #13: $1,500 No Limit Hold’em (6-Handed). Who's betting against him grabbing another in some of the biggest buy-in events of the summer?
Whatever the answer, Belcher won’t be sneaking up on anyone much longer.
