Each player starts the game with a certain number of cards—typically seven or ten—while the remaining cards are arranged in a draw pile. To make a discard pile, the top card in this pile is turned face-up. Keeping track of the cards that have been played, players must plan their moves by choosing between drawing from the draw pile and the discard pile.
